Google AdWords Remarketing

May 10, 2013

If you’re not using Google AdWords remarketing, you should pretty much stop everything else and start doing it now.

I’m not a big AdWords guy, but even I have seen great ROI from setting up AdWords remarketing. It’s a bit of a hassle to set up initially, but it’ll be well worth your money.

What is AdWords Remarketing?

Basically, it’s a way of displaying your ads to people who visited your website and left again without completing the action you want them to take. You can create a compelling ad to get them back into your marketing funnel.

Here some posts that’ll get you started:

Banner Ad Search Engine

May 1, 2013

If you’re doing any kind of display advertising, this is an amazing (new) tool: MOAT.com

It’s a search engine for display ads (banner ads). You just type in a brand name, and it’ll show you a gallery of the banner ads they are running.

And it’s not just brands like CocaCola or BMW – everything that’s heavily promoted on banner ad networks is there.

For example, check some popular clickbank products like customizedfatloss.com or fatburningfurnace.

And it shows you details like where the ad was last seen.

tips
Article post dates or “last update dates” should be recent!
articles that have comments are better than articles that dont have comments
even FAKE comments are better than no comments!
article views, likes & ratings are good!
social media buttons are good!
“recent articles” widget is good
Article author name on every page
place a photo so that is “on the fold” – visitors have to scroll to see the full picture (this trick lowers bounce rate)
add relevant articles to sidebar of each article
Table of contents for individual pages!
use a TOC plugin for wordpress
interlinking
link to other articles within your site (kind of like wikipedia does)
step 4
have you over-optimized your website?
these things have worked in the past, but hurt your SEO in 2013:
internal seo
keyword stuffing
excessive bolding
excessive kw optimization
external seo
lots of low quality links (forum profiles, blog comments, etc)
use google disavow tool
over optimized links
you should have slight URL variations too (e.g. http://www.yoursite.com, http://yoursite.com, http://www.yoursite.com)
not enough anchor text variation
you should link deeply! ((link into subpages, not just your homepage))

How To Create A Video Sales Letter Jon Benson Style

April 29, 2013

Here’s a simple step-by-step instruction on how to create a video sales letter:

  1. Open your presentation software (e.g. PowerPoint)
  2. Write the salesletter directly into the presentation software, slide by slide.
  3. One sentence per slide. OCCASIONALLY two sentences per slide. And always end with an ellipsis (…) or colon (:)
  4. Center-aligned.
  5. Record audio first.
  6. Then play back audio and record screenflow using camtasia. (do this in powerpoint rehearsal mode).
  7. every 5 to 10 slides: don’t have every word on the slide.
  8. videosalesletter should be NO LESS than 15 minutes (better 20, 30, 40 minutes!)

Amazon Advertising Platform

Amazon Advertising Platform

This is something very exciting to look into. The quality of the Amazon network is so much higher than Google, Facebook or most of the other ad networks because there’s always commercial intent.

I haven’t figured this out really yet, but definitely something I’ll be watching in the coming months.

iPhone App for saving & organizing business cards

iPhone App for saving & organizing business cards

We all know that your big stack of business cards is not going to ever help you find the person you’re looking for. (Unless you’re OCD about organizing them in some special way).

That’s why I just LOVE CardMunch – it’s a free (iPhone only) app that works like this:

  1. get a business card
  2. take a picture of the card
  3. throw the card away

The picture of the card gets stored (so far so good), but the information on the business card gets transcribed (by real humans) and all of the sudden you have the whole thing searchable. It’s brilliant!
